Claire gained a B.A. Hons in Industrial Ceramics and ran her own studio selling through trade to galleries around the country and also worked freelance, sculpting for a major stone ornament company supplying high street stores and the global market. She established and ran the Pottery and Art Departments in an NHS Hospital and several local authority Day Centres. Her book Clay for People with Special Needs was published in 2001.
Claire is currently running art courses from her home studio and the Ten2Gallery in Hinckley, whilst also providing popular demonstrations, talks and workshops throughout the UK.
Claire likes to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, seeing odd little areas of interest that are often overlooked in everyday life and wanting to convey their beauty. Her main style has developed from pure watercolours to the use of a soluble pen which gave an indistinct blur when washed over. This then became even more exciting with the added zing of coloured wax crayons. The contrast between the murky inkiness and the power of the bright wax conveyed the feelings she was looking for, ie grey November days when the odd few leaves that are left on the dark tree branches look as if they are sprinkled with gold!
