John E. Morgan
I graduated with a fine arts degree in 1981 from Coventry (Lanchester) Polytechnic and ran art, craft workshops in residential establishments before concentrating on producing my own artwork. I attended art sessions organised by Arty-folks, a voluntary organisation helping individuals suffering mental health problems for four years before becoming a member of Art Alert, a group of artists and crafters who promote art in the community. This has given me the opportunity to exhibit my paintings in Nuneaton and North Warwickshire, including George Eliot hospital, the Fish bowl in Bedworth, Nuneaton Art gallery and work has also been on display in the Lock Gallery in Coventry. I helped run a pop up gallery in Nuneaton, where Art Alert members displayed their diverse wares for sale, my work included, prints, paintings, 3D pieces and cards. My work is about capturing a moment; I try to portray an emotion, happiness or sadness. When working on a painting, I like creating challenges, which I then have to solve. I do try to keep to imagery the viewer will identify with, a likeness that is both pleasing to the eye, but challenges one’s judgment. I am currently working on a project entitled “Train of Thought”; a series of paintings based on trains aiming to create 12 paintings in acrylic, oils, pastels, and watercolour.
