Windmill Art Group
The Windmill Art Group, is a small assembly of local artists in Nuneaton who work in a variety of mediums on wide ranging themes. The group was founded in the 1980’s by Sylvia Rochford as an art class in her own home, but in 1999 was moved to the Mancetter Road Scout HQ and took a more independent form. The group now operates without a tutor, as a location in which artists can work on their own pieces, but benefit from each others’ constructive criticism, technique sharing and sense of humour. Members have won various awards for pieces entered in The Nuneaton Festival of Arts, as well as a number of trophies, and enter work every year. The group also participates in personal challenges that have included a still life task, which yielded many different views and techniques of capturing the same object. They have also collaborated in producing larger works, where each member painted a section in their own style and medium. Exhibitions have been held in Atherstone Heritage Centre, Nuneaton Museum and Art Gallery, Open Arts Trail 2016 and most recently StoneFest in Atherstone. The group has a friendly atmosphere and long history of creating and sharing a passion for art. Painting sessions are held at the Camphill/Mancetter Road Scout HQ on Thursday mornings 9.45-12.15.
